I first read about twitter a while back and just didn't get it. And so I thought I ought to try it out just to see what all the fuss is about. And now I'm hooked. I realise that Jaiku is supposed to be better, but right now, Jaiku crashes my old and cranky N70 so I've had to uninstall it. So I'm sticking with twitter for now. I also really like their new site specific for access from a mobile - http://m.twitter.com - it's great! And it means that you don't have to worry about any SMS costs if you're on an all you can eat plan (which I am).

i had similar issues w/ twitter and sms coming down the pipe so i created a java client as another alternative... no sms fees, automatic updates, advance features like replying, direct messages, auto updating , etc. Check it out as another option for getting Twitter on your mobile - tinytwitter.com

thanks

Thanks Jonathan, glad you enjoyed the article. There seems to also be some interesting things afoot with Twitter in Australia - they're asking users over there to text into their 07624 number. Have a look at http://twitter.com/blog/2007/05/australian-clarity.html - seem to be a few complaints about the cost and it not being from operator inclusive text bundles. Sounds familar eh? :)

Definite passing fad - and I can imagine quite a few angry users when the bills arrive! There's NO warning on the site that you'll be charged a premium and not using texts from your bundle.

However, I *did* spend nearly a full minute almost fascinated by the excellent http://www.twittervision.com/

PS - nice article, well written, anonymous writing person!

The thing, and I think I've said this before, about these kinds of "What am I doing RIGHT now apps" is that no matter what you were doing previously, RIGHT NOW you're updating the app! (yeah, I know that's not the point).

Ewan, if you're going to have guest writers, you're going to have to enable "Posted By: $USER" in this theme so we don't get confused.
