Ryanair launches in-flight mobile phone service on five Italy-based aircraft
Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has launched an in-flight mobile phone service on board five of its aircraft based at Rome (Ciampino). According to Ryanair this is Italy’s first in-flight mobile phone service.
Passengers on the OnAir-enabled aircraft are now able to make and receive voice calls at non-European Union international roaming rates (EUR2 to EUR3 per minute), and also send and receive text messages (EUR0.50+) and e-mail (EUR1 to EUR2), using their mobile phones, BlackBerrys and other smartphones.
Price tariffs are set by each mobile service provider and are subject to customers’ individual price plans. The service is available to all Italian mobile phone customers, as well as the customers of more than 50 other mobile phone operators throughout Europe.
